Eldbjørg Hemsing

Even if Eldbjørg Hemsing, born in Norway in 1990, has long enjoyed a successful career on the international concert stages, her art is marked by a strong love of her homeland. This passion for everything Nordic is reflected not only in her repertoire choices: since 2013, she and her sister Ragnhid have presented the Hemsing Festival in their hometown. The musician has released four albums, including her highly-acclaimed debut on Sony Classical, »Arctic«, in February 2023, dedicated to the musical horizons of the Arctic with works by contemporary composers. For her concert at the Palais im Großen Garten, where her musical partner is the Russian pianist Alexei Volodin, Hemsing travels musically to warmer climes. In addition to two virtuoso classics of the duo literature, Fauré’s Violin Sonata No. 1 and Ravel’s »Tzigane«, and Szymanowski’s impressionistic »Mythes«, of course there will also be a work by her compatriot Edvard Grieg: his brilliantly serene Violin Sonata No. 2, composed during his honeymoon.

Edvard Grieg Sonata for Violin and Piano No. 2 in G major Op. 13
Karol Szymanowski »Mythes. Trois poèmes« for Violin and Piano Op. 30
Gabriel Fauré Sonata for Violin and Piano No. 1 in A major Op. 13
Maurice Ravel »Tzigane«. Concert Rhapsody for Violin and Piano
