SÄCHSISCHES VOCALENSEMBLE

Like few other composers’ output, Bruckner’s oeuvre is marked first and foremost by religious mysticism, reflected especially in his symphonies and choral works. 2024 sees the bicentenary of the great late romanticist’s birth – occasion enough for the Sächsisches Vocalensemble to mark this anniversary with a performance of his Mass No. 2 in E-Minor. Originally conceived for an open-air performance, the work for eight-voice mixed chorus and wind ensemble was inspired by Gregorian chant in its musical structure; large parts of it are sung a cappella – a challenge for all performers involved. Under the baton of Matthias Jung and together with the Dresdner Mottetenchor and the ensemble Musica Florea, the Sächsisches Vocalensemble performs this outstanding composition at the Annenkirche.
