Born in England and living in the USA today, Anna Clyne is one of the most sought-after composers of our times. She was inspired to write her work »Dance« for cello and orchestra, first performed in 2019, by five lines by the 13th-century Persian poet Rumi. This extremely moving work will be in good hands with Jan Vogler, the evening’s soloist. Edward Elgar’s »Enigma Variations« offer fourteen characterizations of persons he was close to – starting with his wife Alice, all the way to a self-portrait with which the work closes. The performance at the Kulturpalast begins with one of Franz Liszt’s wonderful »Hungarian Rhapsodies«. A program that might have been tailored for London’s venerable Philharmonia Orchestra under its charismatic Finnish chief conductor Santtu-Matias Rouvali.
