PIANO RECITAL IGOR LEVIT

Igor Levit, who is celebrated on the international stage today as perhaps Alfred Brendel used to be, is not only one of the truly great pianists, but also an artist who examines events behind the horizon and engages in the ensuing debates. Thus, he received the International Beethoven Prize in 2019 and the Carl von Ossietzky Prize in 2022 for his social activism. Far longer is the list of prestigious musical awards which the pianist, who was born in Nizhny Novgorod in 1987 and moved to Germany with his family at the age of eight, has collected over the course of his impressive career. Performing two breath-taking piano versions of symphonies by Mahler and Beethoven as well as Hindemith’s memorable suite »1922«, the celebrated artist finally makes his debut at the Musikfestspiele.
