LANG — STAATSKAPELLE DRESDEN — THIELEMANN

The »New York Times« declared him the »hottest artist on the classical music planet« – Lang Lang is the artist in question, one of the world’s most celebrated pianists, playing to sold-out halls the world over. At the Semper Opera, the star, who is a resident of Beijing and New York, meets equal partners: the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden under the baton of its outgoing chief conductor Christian Thielemann. The chosen programme combines three works by Ravel, the Piano Concerto in G-Major, which begins with a whiplash, the colourful sonic paintings »Ma mère l’oye« and »La Valse«, with Debussy’s »Ibéria« – a resounding excursion into the era of French Impressionism, presented by a high-carat combination of artists.
