DRESDNER KREUZCHOR AT THE KULTURPALAST

Dresdner Kreuzchor

In many ways, Schubert’s Mass in A-flat-Major is an extraordinary work: the composer worked on it for three years, and in contrast to the custom at the time, there was no commissioner. The chosen key is also unusual: A-flat-major veers between tragedy and melancholy on the one hand and brilliant festiveness on the other. All these colours are reflected in the music, and surely this is one reason the mass enjoys such popularity. This unique composition is flanked by Francis Poulenc’s »Gloria« – which the composer called a grand »choral symphony« – when Dresden’s own Kreuzchor returns to the Kulturpalast in Dresden under the baton of its Kreuzkantor Martin Lehmann, thereby continuing the grand tradition of joint performances with the Dresden Philharmonic.
