PIAF — MYTH, DREAM AND REALITY

At the end of her short life, Édith Piaf regretted nothing, but had experienced all its highs and lows: after almost starving as a toddler in her grandmother’s brothel, her father took her to join the circus. At the age of 15, she began singing on the streets of Paris, was discovered and experienced the dream of rising from nothing to stardom. When the great love of her life, the boxing world champion Marcel Cerdan, was killed in a plane crash, she herself began to stumble. Despite alcoholism and drug addiction, several severe car accidents and incurable illness, »la môme piaf« (»the little sparrow«) got back on her feet again and again, fighting her way back onto the world’s stages and expressing her pain in immortal chansons such as »La vie en rose«, »Milord« and »Non, je ne regrette rien«.
