ANOUSHKA SHANKAR

Like few other artists, Anoushka Shankar has mastered the art of merging different (sonic) worlds. At the age of nine, the musician first received sitar lessons from her famous father Ravi Shankar; only a few years later, she was performing in public. Soon, she was able to develop her own style of playing the 21-string instrument from Northern India, with classical Indian music forming the point of departure for her creative excursions and cooperations. Nominated for no less than nine »Grammy Awards«, Anoushka Shankar has performed with George Harrison, Sting and her half-sister Norah Jones, shared the stage with the Berlin Philharmonic and worked with flamenco ensembles and American DJs. For this musical citizen of the world, exchange with artists from different cultures and genres is of central importance and an expression of mutual respect, which is so important in our world. Her concert at the Kulturpalast will once again build musical bridges, as Shankar and four outstanding colleagues form a quintet whose performance marks a high point in the musician’s career.
