Ernesto Herrera Del Río

was born in Holguín, Cuba, and gained his first percussion lessons at the age of seven under the guidance of Francisco Sánchez Ávila (Lele). In 2005, he started studying at the Music Conservatory of the Province of Holguín in the horn class of Agustín Yaneza, where he remained until his graduation in 2014.
During these nine years, Ernesto Herrera Del Río performed various concerts as a soloist with the Holguín Chamber Orchestra and served as the Principal Hornist in the City Symphony Orchestra from 2011 to 2014. Other musical projects during this period include his membership in the Liceum Orchestra Havana as the Second Horn (from 2016 to 2020), the founding of the Quinteto Contemporáneo, and joining the Ensemble Interactive de La Habana, where musical experimentation and improvisation were emphasized. He also participated in the Cuban-European Young Academy of Thomas Hengelbrock and was a member of the Balthasar-Neumann Orchestra from 2018 to 2019.
In 2020, Ernesto Herrera Del Río joined Nury Guarnasquelli's class in Alicante, Spain, and in 2022, he became the Principal Hornist of the Company Opera 2001. He was a member of the Pacific Music Festival Academy in 2022 and has been the Principal Hornist of the Leipzig Symphony Orchestra since 2023, where he is currently active.
The artist is a member of the Havana Horns Horn Quartet, supported by Sarah Willis, the Hornist of the Berlin Philharmonic. The quartet tours the world, combining Cuban music with well-known pieces from the European classical repertoire.
Ernesto Herrera Del Río has performed multiple times with the Balthasar-Neumann Choir and Orchestra, the ADDA Simfònica Alicante, the Mittelsächsische Philharmonie, and the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba.
