Raquel Massadas

Born in Portugal, the artist studied at the Conservatório de Música de Aveiro and at the Academia Nacional Superior de Orquestra in Lisbon. She also attended courses at Northwestern University in Chicago and with Itzhak Rashkovsky and Simon Rowland-Jones at the Royal College of Music in London. After holding positions at the Philharmonic Orchestra of Malaysia and at the Gulbenkian Orchestra in Lisbon, she continued her education in baroque playing with Richard Gwilt, Enrico Onofri and Elizabeth Wallfisch, expanding to viola d’amore as well. Raquel Massadas has been a member of the European Union Baroque Orchestra under Lars Ulrik Mortensen and has given concerts in Europe and in China, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore, Mexico and the USA. She appears regularly with the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin and with the ensembles Vox Luminis, L’Arpeggiata and Deutsche Hofmusik as well as Os Músicos do Tejo. The musician is also a founding member of the Ensemble Corínto and member of the Munich Baroque Soloists, the Orquestra Barroca Casa da Música and the Dresden Festival Orchestra.
