Luis Zorita Gonzalez

Luis Zorita Gonzalez was born in León in Spain and studied cello with Alexander Fedortchenko in Oviedo, with Kim Scholes and Christopher Constanza in Chicago and with Rudolf Leopold in Graz, completing all his degrees with distinction. He has won first prizes in solo competitions in Spain, the USA, Japan and Austria. As a soloist, he has performed with numerous large orchestras in all the cultural centres of Spain, but also in London, Chicago, Copenhagen, Graz and Vienna. Radio broadcasts for ORF, Radio Sverige, RAI, WFM Chicago and Spanish stations have disseminated his playing. Luis Zorita Gonzales gained extensive orchestral experience as principal cellist at the Orquestra de Cadaqués, as a guest principal with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, with the Tonkünstler Orchestra and Camerata Salzburg as well as a guest musician with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, the Super World Orchestra and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. In the field of historically informed performance practice, he has played with Concentus Musicus Wien, the Balthasar Neumann Ensemble and the Dresden Festival Orchestra. Since 2007 he has been the cellist of the Kreisler Trio Wien and a member of the Merlin Ensemble Wien. His work has been documented on numerous CDs. Furthermore, he teaches at various master courses in Denmark, Spain, Italy and Austria and works as a youth orchestra coach in Spain and Italy. Luis Zorita plays a cello built by Giovanni Battista Ruggieri in 1675.
