Eckhard Lenzing

The bassoonist, who was born near Müritz in 1963, began studying with Herbert Heilmann at the Music Academy Hanns Eisler in Berlin in 1979. After graduating with distinction, he took up a position at the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Rostock Volkstheater (known as the North German Philharmonic since 1990) and also became a member of the award-winning Ensemble Ottetto Amsterdam. In 1992 he enrolled in a second degree course at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in baroque bassoon with Claude Wassmer. At this time, he began exploring Early Music intensively, cooperating with the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, Les Arts Florissants, the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra and La Cetra in Basel. Together with the Ensemble Amphion, whose regular member the bassoonist has been since 1999, he won a first prize at the Van Wasener Competition. From 1997 to 2012 Eckhard Lenzing also taught at the Music Academy in Karlsruhe and at the Music Academy in Trossingen, in addition to leading courses in baroque bassoon. Since 2006, the musician, who works mainly as a freelance artist, has turned increasingly to composing for children and teenagers.
