David Sinclair

After private lessons and various experiences in well-known regional youth orchestras, the Canadian double bass player David Sinclair began studying music in Toronto. He continued his studies with Edwin Barker (principal bass player of the Boston Symphony Orchestra) and Lawrence Wolfe at Boston University, graduating with the Khan Award for the best diploma of the year in 1985. The year after, he took up studies with Ludwig Streicher at the Vienna Music Academy. The active chamber musician has performed with the Orion Quartet and with Les Arts Florissants under William Christie. He has recorded with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen and the Ensemble Intercontemporain from Paris. Today the double bass player works as a freelance musician, playing orchestra, opera and chamber and solo repertoire on contemporary and historical instruments in various ensembles. He also teaches double bass and violone at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis.
