OPENING GALA: MUSIC MEETS HUMOR
SCHUBERT — VOGLER — DRESDEN PHILHARMONIC — BERGLUND

In keeping with the motto, the Dresdner Musikfestspiele opens its 49th edition with a special program dedicated to the LIGHTNESS OF BEING. Attending a concert doesn't have to be a serious thing - or does it? It is precisely this delightful tension between humorous lightness and artistic seriousness that makes the opening evening so unique. Olaf Schubert, master of subtle (Saxon) humor, will guide through the evening. On the musical side, cellist and the festival’s artistic director Jan Vogler, the Dresden Philharmonic and its principal guest conductor Tabita Berglund will present a program full of contrasts: from Weber's sparkling Oberon overture to Henri Dutilleux's cello concerto and Mussorgsky's imaginative Pictures at an Exhibition. Dutilleux's work, inspired by the poetry of Baudelaire, is considered groundbreaking and bridges poetic depth with evocative musical textures in a way that has never been achieved in any other piece for cello and orchestra. Enjoy an opening gala that combines wit, depth, lightness, seriousness and the variety of musical expressions in one evening.
