DANCE ICON MEETS MINIMAL MUSIC
SASHA WALTZ & GUESTS: »IN C«
»In C«, a colorful excursion into the world of minimal music, marks the Dresdner Musikfestspiele debut of an icon of modern dance, Sasha Waltz. The music for the acclaimed choreography is based on Terry Riley’s eponymous, ground-breaking composition of 1964 – a key work of minimal music with a revolutionary effect. Waltz has created a multi-layered choreography from its 53 sound figures, with a movement corresponding to each of them. »It is a democratic piece about being part of a group as an individual, not an individual in the group«, says Waltz. The performance is rounded out by the live performance of the Swiss industrial band The Young Gods. This is living zeitgeist in motion and a unifying experience, according to Waltz: »When the music starts, you hear a clear beat, like a heartbeat that connects everyone.«
