CARTE BLANCHE
MAYER — BERLIN PHILHARMONIC — PETRENKO
During the era of the Iron Curtain, the orchestral guest appearance of Herbert von Karajan and the Berlin Philharmonic at the very first edition of the Dresdner Musikfestspiele in 1978 was legendary. It was followed by several others after the fall of the Wall, led by the chief conductors of the time. Since the 2019/20 season, Kirill Petrenko has been the chief conductor and artistic director of this outstanding orchestra, which many concertgoers and experts consider the world’s best. The Dresdner Musikfestspiele is all the more delighted that the orchestra will now appear once again in Dresden in this five-year constellation of orchestra and conductor, often celebrated as an ideal combination. Albrecht Mayer, principal oboist of the Berliner Philharmoniker since 1992, will be heard as the soloist, a player whose sound has been described as a »divine spark«. The program will be announced at the beginning of the 2025 Dresdner Musikfestspiele – but it goes without saying that the Berliners will bring an intriguing mix of contemporary and traditional repertoire, ensuring an extraordinary musical experience at the Kulturpalast.
