Jean-Guihen Queyras

Technical perfection, precise tone, and a firm focus on the music itself characterize the artistic work of Jean-Guihen Queyras. The versatile cellist presents a rarely heard facet of his instrument: the cello and jazz music. Invisible Stream encapsulates what connects people and music across stylistic and aesthetic boundaries. Under this title, the French artist, who was born in Canada, and his three fellow musicians—all leading figures in classical music and jazz—creates a musical feast. Through improvisation, a dialogue unfolds between the music of Raphaël Imbert and works by Franz Schubert, Richard Wagner and Ornette Coleman. The perfect venue for this musical adventure is the TheaterRunie St. Pauli in Dresden's Hechtviertel district, renovated in 2011/12 and topped with a glass roof. It has quickly become one of Dresden's most exciting performance venues —urban, atmospheric and unique.
