EXCEPTIONAL FESTVAL DEBUT
MALOFEEV — ROTTERDAMS PHILHARMONISCH ORKEST — SHANI

"He doesn't play notes; he creates emotional realities so magical, so multifaceted and intense, that they sweep you off your feet and take your breath away," praised Der Standard, referring to the pianist Alexander Malofeev, born in Moscow in 2001 and now living in Berlin. The artist, celebrated by international critics for his virtuosity, sensitivity, and expressiveness, is now (finally) making his debut at the Dresden Music Festival. Edvard Grieg was roughly the same age as the soloist when he composed his only piano concerto (in A minor, like Schumann's model), which masterfully captures the "colors of his homeland," Norway, and which already delighted Franz Liszt. Malofeev will be accompanied by the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, which, in addition to an overture by his compatriot Johan Wagenaar, will perform another jewel of the Romantic era: Brahms' Second Symphony. The direction of this high-caliber evening is Lahav Shani, who already thrilled audiences at the music festival in 2025 with two concerts as conductor and pianist.
