During his time as a teacher and conductor at the Venetian girls' conservatory Ospedale della Pietà, Antonio Vivaldi composed hundreds of musical works, including 27 cello concertos. The revolutionary aspect of these was that the cello, previously used primarily as a basso continuo instrument, was given a new lease on life as a virtuoso solo instrument. Four of these masterpieces can now be experienced by five cellists who, in this exciting late-night concert at the Martin-Luther-Kirche, will present two very different interpretations side by side. While the first part of the concert will feature a modern sound on steel strings tuned to 443 Hz, the second part will be performed on gut strings tuned to the lower Baroque standard of 415 Hz. The audience is invited to discover the different sounds and learn more about the various playing styles in the moderations of cellist and the festival's Artistic Director Jan Vogler. A unique musical journey that allows Vivaldi to be experienced through the lens of time.
