Bohème 2020 – »...FOR ART IS DAUGHTER OF FREEDOM« (Friedrich Schiller)

About the Project

Under the name »Bohème 2020«, young artists of different nationalities and disciplines - such as visual and performing arts, video installation, dance, literature and music - have been coming together since 2014 at the music festival. Their goal is to take over spaces within the festival in the name of spontaneity with their very own curated program. The energy of creative exchange and the authenticity of expression that the artists and also the audience have encountered have made an impression and proven the great potential and power of this particular format.
After various performances created by the participants in 2014 through 2016, in 2017 the challenge to the artists was to add their personal comments and perspectives on the concert performance of Beethoven’s opera »Leonore«, thus creating a connection with our own times.

2018 Season

In 2018, »Bohème 2020« features new protagonists. Four to five young creative artists will be invited to spend four weeks in Dresden – the entire duration of the Festival – to conceive actions and performances that are inspired by the contents and venues of our concerts. The performances may take place around the performance venues, at the entrances, in the foyers, onstage at intermission, but also throughout the city. Imagination abounds! In 2018, »Bohème 2020« will network with artists and audience, inspired by the creative energy of music, implementing their own ideas and statements on selected concerts in a manner that is visible and accessible, thus impacting the entire city of Dresden.

The 2018 Dates

The dates of the individual actions will be announced at short notice. More information follows during the 2018 festival time.
