The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment

Founded in 1986, the British Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment is one of the most innovative and keen to experiment ensembles of our times. The orchestra’s repertoire focuses on Baroque and Classical music of the Age of Enlightenment at which the name refers to. The members of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment play on original instruments. Tours led the orchestra through many countries, to South America in 2002, to the USA and the Netherlands as well as to South East Asia in 2003.
The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment has no permanent music director but is led by an elected artistic group. Current Principal Artists are Sir Simon Rattle, Iván Fischer and Vladimir Jurowski.
