The origins of Schloss Pillnitz date back to the 16th century. Augustus the Strong built two further palaces in the 18th century: the Wasserpalais and the Bergpalais. He was very fond of the East Asian style which can be seen at both palaces. After the conflagration in 1818, the original palace was destroyed completely and was therefore replaced by a new palais. Today, Schloss Pillnitz is host to the museum of arts-and-crafts.
There is a beautiful park surrounding Schloss Pillnitz in which many specific plants from all over the world were collected. Especially, the more than 200-years-old camellia is very famous and very worth seeing.
