The historic building is situated between the Pirnaischer Platz and the Neumarkt. Since 1775, it had been the first conference building for the Saxonian predial stands. It combines the styles of classicism, late baroque and rococo and owns a unique staircase as well as a representative festival room.
After being destroyed in February 1945 and rebuilt again in 1965, it is the domicile of the museum of the City of Dresden (Dresdner Stadtmuseum). The museum was founded in 1891. It was meant to be the middle-class-opposite to the world famous Royal Arts Collections. It accomodates the most extensive collection of the urban history of art and culture.
